UDZUNGWA NATIONAL PARK
Its recently established conservation area of about 2,000 Sq Km in the South Central Tanzania between Morogoro and Iringa. The Park is boarded with Great Ruaha River and its 10kms from Mikumi national Park. It rises from 250m to 2,576 m at the peak.
The Park is magnet for hikers as is quite typical wilderness since the access of the most area is by foot.
Hacking safaris, bird watching safari, camping safari are the major activities, an excellent network in the forest trial through beautiful sceneries, trials are maintained regularly.
The major attraction of park is bio-diversity and unique rainforest, where most rare plants, not found anywhere else in the world, have been identified, from a tiny African violet to 30 meter high trees.
Also house for 6 types of primates, including 2 endemic species The Iringa colubus , red monkey and the Sanje crested mangabey.
Plateau supports buffalo, lions, leopard, Wild dogs, yellow monkey, blue monkey, velvet monkey, red duikers, honey badgers, squirrels, mongoose, sables, and blue duiker's as well rare species of birds.
When to go: generally accessible all-year round although slippery during rainy season. Dry season is between June to October before the short rains but be prepared for rain any time.
ACCOMODATIONS IN UDZUNGWA
There is no permanent accommodation inside Udzungwa National Park. However, as it is only a comfortable one hour drive from Mikumi National Park, we suggest a visit as a day excursion from Mikumi National Park.Details of both of these camps can be found by clicking on the Mikumi link below.
Self contained accommodations are available near the Park gate. For those with camping equipment, 3 campsites have been established inside the Park.
