EASTERN CIRCUIT
SAADANI NATIONAL PARK
Its 1st Tanzania coastal wildlife sanctuary located on the Indian ocean some 45 kms north of Bagamoyo.
Saadani is unique for its extraordinary diversity of scenery and wildlife.
Beach, Bush and river have been thrown together in such a colourful clash of ecosystems that there is nothing to compare with it anywhere on the Eastern Coast of Africa.
ACCOMODATION IN SAADANI
When to visit: generally accessible all-year round, but the access roads are sometimes impassable during April to May. Best time to visit is between January to February and June to August
Getting there : 4 hours drive from Dar es salaam or flight from Dar es salaam / Zanzibar
The park contains indigenous species including Liechtenstein hartebeest and the rare Roosevelt sable. Good populations of elephant live in Saadani as do several heard of buffalo, and numerous large groups of hippo and crocodile. Lion, leopard, hyena, giraffe, greater kudu, red duckier, reedbuck, warthog, waterbucks, wildebeest, zebra and bird life is extensive.
Bottle nose dolphins are common off the southern coast of the park; whale's passes through Zanzibar channel in October and November and green turtle breed at madete beach.
